Recently the students from Mary Queen of Heaven School in Erlanger, Kentucky, held a fundraiser to raise money for children who attend St. Julie Primary School in Uganda, East Africa. Back in January the students from Mary Queen of Heaven were treated to presentations given by Sister Mary Rita Geoppinger, SND, and Sister Mary Judith Averbeck, SND, on the Uganda Mission, sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Sister Mary Rita and Sister Mary Judith spoke about life in Uganda and how St. Julie Primary School holds each year an Olympiad for their students.
Because of these presentations, the eighth grade students from Mary Queen of Heaven decided to hold their own Olympiad and charge a participation fee for the event. The students organized and ran the event which was set-up in five stations: high jump, long jump, beanbag throw, races with hurdles, and a soccer skills competition. During the fundraiser, a time keeper signaled the students to change stations by beating on a large drum. A great time was had by all.
The Sisters of Notre Dame wish to thank all the students who participated in this fundraising event. Due to their creativity and hard work, over $200 was raised for St. Julie Primary School. The children’s enthusiasm and eagerness to help their fellow Uganda students is greatly appreciated.
